CYBER BULLYING
Internet is a source of communication,
information and it is social platform; almost all people depend on the
internet. Despite all the good that the Internet has brought to people, there
are people who use it with malicious intent. And just as bullying has existed
since the dawn of time, virtual bullying has existed since the beginning of the
Internet. Many of us have dealt with bullying at some point of our lives –
cyberbullying, verbal bullying, physical bullying or any forms of bullying.
Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally
and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. And today, it can be
done from and to anywhere – often anonymously.
According to Unicef Philippines,
“one in three young people in 30 countries said they have been a victim of
online bullying, with one in five saying they skipped school due to
cyberbullying and violence, according to a new poll released today by UNICEF,
the United Nations organization working for children’s rights. In the Philippines,
latest national data show that cyberviolence affects almost half of children
aged 13-171. The prevalence of cyberviolence for males (44 per cent) is almost
the same for females (43 per cent).”

Cyberbullying makes use of the
technology by the use of mobile devices, video games and of course social
media. Most teenagers or children’s lives are focused on the internet or in the
virtual world. Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube
and etc. are the social network used for communication but somehow it is also
the social networks used to cyberbullying and internet trolling. By the
increasing number of people that have social media sites and access to
technology, it is also increasing the number of people who experienced
cyberbullying.
The most common
forms of cyberbullying are offensive name-calling or the spread of false or
harmful rumors. Cursing people over the internet, using text messages or chats
to harass the victim, creating a website or social media accounts just to
humiliate the victim, hacking the victim’s account, attacking behavior aimed at the
sexual, racial, physical, or weight-based humiliation of the victim, leaking
private photos and sexual images of the victim, embarrassing people by their photos
and videos, sending abusive and offensive messages and many more forms. With
these forms of cyberbullying, it can really affect both physically and
emotionally of the victim. Victims of cyberbullying have troubled going out for
school or work and some are suffering from anxiety, depression and sleep
difficulties – thinking what they did wrong even if it is not their fault to be
the one being bullied. Bullying victims can also lead to untrusting themselves
and untrusting others, having self-esteem, lack of interest and motivation, and
it can affect victim’s life for years because somehow it traumatize them. Even
the people who witness bullying can also be experiencing negative effects and
can also be traumatize.
For me, the reasons why people are
bullying others it is because they want to be powerful, the want attention of
others, and maybe the feel like they control others. And maybe because of their
boredom, revenge, peer pressure and ignorance. Any of these reasons are mainly
wrong and bullying must be stop. Parents should teach their children how the
technology works and that what they post can last a long time. Children must know how to be
digitally safe and ensure they are not vulnerable when online. Parents,
teachers or even students can protect each other to prevent cyberbullying,
talk, learn, monitor and be there for everyone who experiencing bullying.

PLAGIARISM
All of us are searching and browsing
all over the internet, doing works, doing assignments or projects, and doing
researches or thesis. But take note that whenever you copy and paste something
on the internet; make sure that you will put the links or site that you copied
from. There is this illegal practice called Plagiarism, Plagiarism is
presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their
consent, by incorporating it into your work without full
acknowledgement. Plagiarism may be intentional or reckless, or
unintentional.
Plagiarism happens when a person uses
the ideas of others, formats and unique ideas, and not even crediting the
sources. Plagiarism is not only based on text or blogs, but it can also be on
media such as graphs, illustrations or even computer codes. Plagiarism is an
unethical thing to do, it is also determines that you are not honest with your
work and don’t have an integrity. It also shows that they are lacking of
imaginations and ideas so they are borrowing copying the ideas of others. Maybe
they don’t know the topic they writing about.
There are many reasons to avoid
plagiarism. To avoid plagiarism, do you research well, read different contents
from multiple sources so you have enough ideas. Write in your own words, you
should not copy and paste the content from someone; the content you’re doing
must be unique and done on your own word and comes from your own mind. Cite
your sources, when you are citing a statistics or graphs make sure you cite
your sources to make sure it is legit information. You should avoid plagiarism
because you need to do it in your own and produce your work as better as
possible. You must do your own work with effort and hard work, so your hard
work will pay off.

SOFTWARE PIRACY
With the utilization of modern day
technology, we are not aware whether we violate laws over the internet or not
by just a simple downloading or purchasing software programs. Software piracy
is the act of stealing software that is legally protected. This stealing
includes copying, distributing, modifying or selling the software. Most
software programs being purchased are licensed for only one user or one
computer. But copying and sharing that software to multiple users without
multiple license is considered software piracy which is illegal. Any normal
person with a computer can download or purchase any software programs but some
people don’t know about the software laws so they are not aware whether they
are pirating software or not.
Software piracy has many dangers or
consequences that we should be aware of, it can slow down our computers, it can
affect the entire system or the computer, it increases the chances that the
software programs will malfunction, it also increases the risk of your computer
having viruses and malwares, data loss, access of computer’s information and
that software can’t be updated – by these consequences it can cause users to
encounter bugs that may lead to loss of work, loss of effort and time and
frustration. Software piracy is stealing so beware of your own consequences;
somehow it may lead to legal problems.
Some software programs are expensive and to
avoid doing software piracy, use the free version of that software instead of
purchasing it with a costly amount. Or use the less expensive version of that
software but it only limits the features of the software that will fulfil your
needs. Or use alternative software, instead of that expensive or the less
expensive ones download the software that satisfies your needs for free.
To prevent this software piracy,
companies may need to implement anti-piracy so that their software programs are
secured and protected. They can use watermarks with company names and logos to
indicate that the products are legit. They can also use product keys with
unique numbers and letters. So, be aware of any software programs you’re
downloading, read first before you purchase or download to avoid software
piracy.
